OLBH Sponsors Filled with Hope Food Drive
OLBH is one of the sponsors for the Filled with Hope food drive that will take place Monday, Nov. 12 through Nov. 18, in conjunction with National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.
The two primary drop-off points for food collection beginning Monday, Nov. 12, are Helping Hands, Inc. of Greenup (412 Main Street, Greenup) and the Greenup County Board of Education (45 Musketeer Drive, Greenup.) Additionally, area businesses will organize their own collection drives in conjunction with the Filled with Hope campaign.
Food that is collected during the Filled with Hope food drive will be donated to Helping Hands of Greenup as well as Greenup County School’s Brown Bag Project. Helping Hands is a non-profit, faith-based, human service agency that provides food distribution, clothing and utility assistance. Greenup County School’s Brown Bag Program addresses the food and nutrition needs of some of the county’s most disadvantaged students on weekends and extended breaks when they do not have access to school lunches. The Brown Bag Program serves close to 200 students per week with food that goes home for weekend consumption.
This is the fourth year for the Filled with Hope food drive. Kentucky is ranked fourth in the nation in the prevalence of food insecurity (a limited or uncertain availability of adequate foods).
