OLBH Celebrates Lung Cancer Awareness Month with Luncheon and Vigil
With November’s designation as Lung Cancer Awareness Month, OLBH will recognize the month with several awareness activities including a free luncheon Monday, Nov. 26 at 11 a.m. at Bellefonte Centre (1000 Ashland Drive, Russell) and a free vigil to honor those lives impacted by lung cancer Friday, Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m. in the hospital’s chapel.
The Nov. 26 luncheon concerning lung cancer will address early detection and other efforts important in the fighting of the disease. Attendees of the event will hear of the latest developments in care from seminar speaker Carrie Kellogg, RN, a nurse with OLBH’s Lung Health Program. Lunch will be provided by Covidien – Super Dimension. To RSVP for the free luncheon, call the OLBH CareLine at (606) 833-CARE (2273).
The 2012 Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil will take place in the hospital chapel Friday, Nov. 30 beginning at 5:30. The vigil will include a tribute to those whose lives have been touched by lung cancer, as well as stories from survivors. The event will conclude with a lighting ceremony and prayer of hope.
The vigil is taking place in partnership with the Lung Cancer Alliance, the only national non-profit organization dedicated solely to providing support and advocacy for people living with or at risk of lung cancer. The OLBH vigil is one of many taking place throughout the country. The National Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil is now the largest national and international coordinated awareness event for lung cancer.
It is the first year OLBH has participated in the vigil. The vigil is free to attend and valet parking will be available. To RSVP for the vigil, call the OLBH CareLine at (606) 833-CARE (2273).For more information, visit www.ashlandkyvigil.kintera.org.
