OLBH Receives Bike Grant
OLBH has accepted a grant of nearly $2,500 from the Kentucky Bicycle and Bikeway Commission. The money will support educational programs in Argillite designed to teach the importance of sustainable lifestyle changes through the biking.
The educational projects for which the funding will support include the Feelin’ Good Mileage Club, the Mega Mileage Club, Families in Training and a bicycle safety class. Each of these offerings is geared at a particular audience, be it school students, school faculty or community members. Each of the supported educational efforts teach bicycle and pedestrian safety and the value of exercise. The grant from the Kentucky Bicycle and Bikeway Commission will provide educational toolkits that include class curriculum and training aids.
The Kentucky Bicycle and Bikeway Commission (KBBC) was formed by the Kentucky legislature in 1992. It is mandated to represent the interests of bicyclists in advising the Secretary of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet on all matters pertaining to bicycles, bikeways and their use, extent and location; assist the bicycle and bikeway program in the exercise of its duties within the Cabinet and promote the best interests of the bicycling public, within the context of the total transportation system, to governing officials and the public at large.
The grant will be accepted on behalf of the hospital by its philanthropic arm, the OLBH Foundation. More information on the OLBH Foundation can be found at www.olbhfoundation.org or by contacting the OLBH Foundation at (606) 833-3655.
