OLBH Awarded for Enivornmental Efforts
OLBH has been honored with the 2012 Partner for Change Award from Practice Greenhealth, a national membership organization for health care facilities committed to environmentally responsible operations. The award is one of the organization’s seven Environmental Excellence Awards given each year to honor outstanding environmental achievements in the health care sector. It is the third straight year OLBH has received the honor.
The Partner for Change Award recognizes healthcare facilities that continuously improve and expand upon their waste reduction and pollution prevention programs. At a minimum, facilities applying for this award must be recycling 10 percent of their total waste and have developed other successful pollution prevention programs.
In addition to OLBH receiving the Partner for Change award, OLBH’s parent organization, Bon Secours Health System, Inc., was selected as winner of Practice Greenhealth’s 2012 System for Change Award. This environmental excellence award is bestowed upon health systems which have proven success in improving environmental performance and demonstrated dedication to a higher standard of sustainability. “Bon Secours is extremely proud of all our facilities’ achievements in ecological sustainability. For the third year running, our efforts for environmental excellence are raising the expectations for ecological stewardship while fulfilling the health system’s commitment to be proactive in healing the earth,” said Richard J. Statuto, Bon Secours Health System’s president and chief executive officer.
The Practice Greenhealth awards were presented last week at the special 10-year anniversary celebration and gala dinner for the Environmental Excellence Awards in Denver, Colorado at CleanMed 2012, the premier national environmental conference for leaders in health care sustainability. Practice Greenhealth is the nation’s leading membership and networking organization for institutions in the healthcare community that have made a commitment to sustainable, eco-friendly practices.
“We are so pleased to have our accomplishments recognized at a national level for the third straight year,” Diana Williams, chairperson of the OLBH Green Team, said. “It is a great honor for both OLBH and Bon Secours to receive the recognition for our environmental efforts. We have been working both here and throughout the Bon Secours Health System on reducing our environmental impact. We’re committed in these efforts and the honor of receiving this award just deepens that commitment as we continually monitor our progress to improve our performance.”
