Free Palliative Care Luncheon Sept. 27
OLBH will host a free seminar and luncheon concerning palliative care Thursday, Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. at Bellefonte Centre (1000 Ashland Drive) on the OLBH campus.
The luncheon topic is “It’s Your Choice: Improving Comfort and Quality of Life During Serious Illness.” Attendees of the event will hear of the latest developments in palliative care, which is a discipline that includes pain and symptom control, educational and emotional support, and support for the families of patients with life-limiting illnesses. The speakers for the seminar are Lisa W. Barker, M.D., and Bryan Saltz, M.D. Both physicians have earned the American Board of Family Medicine Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and practice at Ashland Family Medicine at 2222 Winchester Ave. in Ashland.
Barker earned her doctorate of medicine from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. She conducted a family practice internship at the University of Kentucky. Barker is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Barker is the medical director of Community Hospice.
Saltz earned his doctorate of medicine from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. His internship and his residency were both conducted at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. Saltz is a member of the American Board of Family Medicine and is director of Palliative Care at OLBH.
