Join in the Fun! Ashland HeartChase is Coming June 30
OLBH is bringing the American Heart Association’s HeartChase to Ashland. The Ashland HeartChase will take place Saturday, June 30 beginning at 9 a.m. in Ashland Central Park as part of the annual Summer Motion event.
Ashland HeartChase offers participants a creative way to explore the city, have a good time and contribute to an important cause. Ashland HeartChase is a new event that allows competing teams the chance to have an adventure without having to leave Ashland. The adventure takes several teams throughout Ashland where they must perform activities and solve clues to complete checkpoints in the quickest time possible. The team that completes the course in the shortest time will be named as Ashland HeartChase champions. The competition is a combination of popular television shows such as Amazing Race and Minute to Win It.
Chuck Charles, president of Summer Motion and vice president of the OLBH Foundation, said he is pleased the hospital is able to bring HeartChase to Ashland and Summer Motion. “This is a wonderfully innovative event and a great addition to Summer Motion,” Charles said. “It should be a lot of fun to both participate in and to watch. What could be better than a community-wide competition to uncover clues, solve puzzles and complete challenges in a race to the finish line? What makes it better is it is all in service of a good cause, as the money raised supports the life-saving work of the American Heart Association.”
“HeartChase is about more than having a good time and raising money for the important work of the American Heart Association,” cardiologist Michele Friday, M.D., said. “This is also about raising awareness of the extent of heart disease in our area and the awareness of how living a healthy lifestyle can positively impact our risk. This includes eating and drinking healthy and becoming more active. It’s about how being active can make for a healthy heart and a better quality of life.” Friday, who serves as the chairperson of the Ashland HeartChase, noted that exercise and eating wholesome natural foods is the key to preventing heart disease. “A sedentary lifestyle is one of the top risks of heart disease, but fortunately it is a risk factor that you can do something about. We hope that the Ashland HeartChase not only gets people moving but that it also gets them inspired to live a healthy lifestyle that strengthens their hearts and cardiovascular systems.”
There are several ways to take part in Ashland HeartChase. Community members can participate in the race by forming a team or joining an existing team or by donating to the worthy cause of the American Heart Association.
