OLBH Celebrates National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with October Activities
With October’s designation as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, OLBH will recognize the month with several awareness activities.
Throughout the month, the OLBH Women’s Center will provide free clinical breast exams (call for appointment). Additionally, free mammograms sponsored by Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation are available for any women from Kentucky over the age of 40 and without health insurance. Call the OLBH Women’s Center at (606) 836-PINK (7465) for clinical breast exam and mammogram appointments.
The following are other events/activities planned for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month:
• OLBH’s Breast Cancer Support Group will meet Thursday Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. at Bellefonte Centre (1000 Ashland Drive). Call the OLBH CareLine at (606) 833-CARE (2273) or visit www.olbh.com to register for the free support group.
• OLBH has organized Team Bellefonte, a walking team that will participate in two upcoming breast cancer awareness walks in Ashland’s Central Park. The team will participate in the Oct. 13 Susan G. Komen I Am the Cure Walk and the American Cancer Society’s Oct. 20 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. For more information concerning either walk and to donate or join the team, call the OLBH Women’s Center at (606) 836-PINK (7465).
• Tuesday, Oct. 23, the OLBH Women’s Center will host its Look Good…Feel Better meeting which helps women cope with the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment by teaching them beauty tips that can help them enhance their looks and boost their self-images. The free class begins at 3 p.m. and lasts until 5 p.m. at Bellefonte Centre. To register, call the OLBH CareLine at (606) 833-CARE (2273.)
• Throughout the month of October, the OLBH Mobile Mammography Unit will be making stops throughout the region providing mammography services. For a schedule of dates and times, click here. Those who wish to attend any of the scheduled stops must schedule an appointment by calling the OLBH Women’s Center at (606) 836-PINK (7465).
