Hospital Sponsors Oct. 13 I Am the Cure Walk
OLBH will sponsor the Susan G. Komen I Am the Cure Walk Saturday, Oct. 13 in Ashland’s Central Park. Registration begins at 7 a.m. with the race starting at 8:30 a.m.
All proceeds from the walk benefit cancer research. In addition to OLBH sponsoring the event, the OLBH Women’s Center has organized Team Bellefonte, a walking team, to participate in the I Am The Cure Walk. Those wishing to join an existing team, start a team, or simply donate to the cause can do so online by visiting komenlexington.org. OLBH is a longstanding recipient of grant funding from Susan G. Komen Lexington. The funding is used for free mammograms for any women from Kentucky over the age of 40 without health insurance.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. Thanks to more than 75,000 volunteers dedicated to the fight against breast cancer, Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest private funder of community-based breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs.
Other sponsors of the I Am the Cure Walk are Tri-State Regional Cancer Center, The Gallaher Group, Big Sandy Superstore, Pepsi, McDonalds and Clear Channel Radio.
