daytime sleep study
The OLBH Sleep Lab offers flexible daytime sleep studies for individuals who cannot complete an overnight sleep study due to working schedules, etc. When scheduling a study at the OLBH Sleep Lab, simply have your referring physician request a daytime sleep study. Daytime sleep studies are performed Monday-Friday.
MSLT or multiple sleep latency test
A multiple sleep latency test (MLST) is required to diagnose certain
sleep disorders. These tests are performed at the OLBH Sleep Lab during
the daytime hours, and are only done after you have had an overnight
sleep study at the center.
The MSLT consists of four to five short naps throughout the day at
two-hour intervals. Each nap typically lasts for 20-30 minutes, and you
must stay awake after each nap until it is time for the next one.
Certain medications that might not disturb a nighttime study can
interfere with an MSLT's results. Please be sure to discuss all of your
medications and any other supplements you may be taking with your
physician prior to coming to the center for your study.
how to prepare for a daytime sleep study at the OLBH sleep lab
An MSLT at the OLBH Sleep Lab requires a full day to complete. Make sure
you bring food with you for breakfast and lunch since we do not have
vending machines. Please do not bring drinks that contain caffeine. Make
sure you bring projects or books with you to occupy the time when you
are awake
Please wear comfortable, daytime clothing as we would like you to remain
active between naps. The daytime sleep studies are normally completed
by 5:00 p.m. or 5:30 p.m., however, some patient's studies are completed
as early as 3:30 p.m. Once we have reviewed your first four naps, we
can let you know if you need to stay past 3:30 p.m.
