Ashland - Bellefonte Cancer Center - Specialized Oncology
Services
When you or someone you love are diagnosed with cancer, you are overcome
with a whirlwind of questions and emotions. What do I do next? Is my doctor
the best qualified to treat my illness? Is my hospital equipped with the
technology and skills necessary to make me well again? What about my career?
What about my family? Is there support available for their experience with
my illness too?
At Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, a dedicated cancer care team is available
to help answer questions and ease anxieties felt by many patients who find
themselves on a quest to maintain their lives while successfully overcoming
their disease. Clinical expertise from OLBH physicians, researchers, nurses,
nutrition specialists, social workers and home healthcare providers is combined
to make up the hospital’s specialized oncology services program, known
as Cancer Care at Bellefonte.
Having
clinical expertise accessible in your local community is critical to someone
who is facing a diagnosis of cancer. Cancer Care at Bellefonte’s healthcare
professionals strive to be more than accessible, and are highly knowledgeable
and experienced about today’s advanced methods for treating cancer.
Cancer Care
at Bellefonte experts understand that each patient and each type of cancer
differs. That is why thoughtful treatment planning is conducted with each
individual patient. Once your particular plan of care is designed, OLBH
medical specialists have a host of highly advanced cancer therapies, on
par with the nation’s leading cancer facilities, to choose from at
Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
Above
and beyond offering the latest technologies available for improved care,
the hospital’s specialized healthcare professionals recognize that
successful care depends on community and staff education, early detection
and prevention measures.
“Early detection of cancer can save lives and is an important emphasis
of the Cancer Care at Bellefonte program,” Kirti Jain, M.D., OLBH
oncologist, said. “Opportunities for risk assessments and health
screenings for selected cancers are available at the hospital’s
Primary Care centers, aboard the mobile health and mobile wellness centers,
and at various physician offices throughout the community.”
Informative
education and support groups also are an essential part of the hospital’s
accredited oncology services program. “The Cancer Care at Bellefonte
team works to ensure community members are accurately informed and kept
up-to-date about the latest cancer developments, prevention methods and
treatment alternatives,” Dr. Jain added. Cancer Care at Bellefonte
support groups include smoking cessation, the Cancer Angel Network and special
classes to help you deal with the side effects of chemotherapy, among others.
In addition to prevention, detection, treatment and support, Cancer Care
at Bellefonte offers Tri-State residents access to a variety of clinical
trials that may improve cancer symptoms, ease treatment or increase the
success of the patient’s condition. For a complete list of clinical
trials available at OLBH, please visit the hospital’s web site at
